Moissanite Color

We sell moissanite in the colorless and near-colorless range. GIA has developed a color grading scale commonly used for diamonds, and the same scale applies to moissanite. According to GIA grade

  • Grades D, E, F: colorless
  • Grades G, H, I: near colorless
  • Grades J, K: faint color

So what does this actually mean? D, E, F, and even G grades are colorless, so to speak, "icy" white. Grades H and I still look white, but it's a slightly warmer or steely white. As you get into the J and K ranges, you start to see a little yellow.

Moissanite Clarity

Clarity is a measure of surface flaws and internal inclusions in a gemstone. For comparison with natural diamonds, experts agree that Moissanite's clarity is, on average, equivalent to a GIA-grade VS clarity. In practice, this means that the inclusions are only visible under a magnifying glass, and are difficult to see under a jeweler's magnifying glass (10x magnifying glass). Fewer than 10% of faceted diamonds have this clarity.

Moissanite Carat

The carat is the traditional unit of measurement for diamond weight. Moissanite is not usually described in its actual carat weight because it is about 10% lighter than diamond. For example, a 6.5mm round diamond weighs 1.0 carats, while a 6.5mm round moissanite weighs approximately 0.88 carats. Moissanite and diamond are two stones of the same size but different carat weights. To minimize confusion, moissanite dimensions are measured in millimeters and diamond equivalent weights are measured in carats. Thus, a 1 ct round diamond is the same size as a 1 ct round moissanite.
